Researchers at the University of Miami in November 1993 will conduct the first human experiments in the US on the drug ibogaine, which has potential for treating cocaine, heroin and alcohol addiction; the drug is found in the root of a West African plant, the iboga, and was used by the Bwiti tribe in ritual ceremonies (M).
